Mathieu Hanotin, président de Plaine Commune
Né en 1978 à Compiègne, Mathieu Hanotin s’installe en Seine-Saint-Denis au début des années 2000. Elu vice-président dans le groupe socialiste du Conseil départemental de 2008 à 2021, il est d’abord en charge de l’éducation, avant de reprendre le sport et les grands événements en 2015. Il participe alors à la candidature de Paris 2024, et préfigure déjà le rôle du 93 dans l’accueil des Jeux.
En 2012 il est aussi élu député de la 2e circonscription de la Seine-Saint-Denis, et œuvre au sein du groupe PS pour faire avancer la lutte contre l’habitat indigne et l’accès au logement. Pendant les présidentielles de 2017, il est directeur de campagne de Benoît Hamon.
En 2020, Mathieu Hanotin conduit la liste « Notre Saint-Denis » aux municipales, et devient maire de Saint-Denis. Il met en œuvre des projets ambitieux : gratuité de la cantine scolaire, police de proximité 24h/24, requalification du centre-ville, lutte contre l’habitat indigne… Il est l’auteur, avec la maire de Mulhouse, d’un rapport qui inspire très largement la loi sur l’habitat dégradé adoptée en mars 2024.
Durant ses quatre premières années de mandat, il prépare la Ville à l’accueil des Jeux, et contribue à l’élaboration des infrastructures olympiques autant qu’à l’héritage colossal laissé aux habitants. Au printemps 2023, Mathieu Hanotin et Michel Fourcade, maire de Pierrefitte-sur-Seine, annoncent la création d’une commune nouvelle unissant les deux villes. L’édile de Saint-Denis s’apprête donc, au premier janvier 2025, à devenir le maire de la 2e commune la plus peuplée d’Île-de-France.
Cet été, il accueille fièrement le plus grand événement sportif mondial, dans une ville en pleine transformation. Un moment de fierté et de cohésion, au cœur d’une banlieue qui se réinvente.
Born in 1978 in Compiègne, Mathieu Hanotin joined the Socialist Party at an early age and moved to Seine-Saint-Denis in the early 2000s. Elected vice-president of the Socialist group on the Departmental Council from 2008 to 2021, he was initially in charge of education, before taking over responsibility for sports and sports events in 2015. At the time, he was involved in the Paris 2024 bid and was already foreshadowing the department's role in hosting the Games.
In 2012, he was elected deputy for the 2nd constituency of Seine-Saint-Denis and worked within the PS group to advance the fight against substandard housing and access to housing. During the 2017 presidential elections, he was Benoît Hamon's campaign manager.
In 2020, Mathieu Hanotin became mayor of Saint-Denis. He implemented ambitious projects: free school lunch, 24-hour community police, downtown redevelopment, and the fight against substandard housing. Together with the mayor of Mulhouse, he authored a report that largely inspired the law on substandard housing adopted in March 2024.
During his first four years in office, he prepared the city to host the Games, contributing to the development of the Olympic infrastructure as much as to the colossal legacy left to the residents.
In spring 2023, Mathieu Hanotin and Michel Fourcade, mayor of Pierrefitte, announced the creation of a new commune uniting the two cities. On January 1, 2025, the mayor of Saint-Denis will be at the head of the 2nd most populous commune in the Île-de-France region.
This summer, he will proudly host the world's biggest sporting event, in a transformating city. A moment of pride and cohesion, in the heart of a dynamic, evolving suburbian city.
